United Media Services (UMS) made a significant impact at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, showcasing its role in advancing Egyptian and Arab media. The panel discussion, held at this year’s IBC, focused on the theme “Reconfiguring an Established Media Ecosystem by Embracing Disruptive Technological Innovations.”

The panel featured Amr El Feki, CEO and Managing Director of UMS, and Nashwa Gad El Haq, Chairwoman and Managing Director of WATCH IT. Allan McLennan, a seasoned moderator at IBC, led the discussion.

    UMS’s Growth and Influence

El Feki highlighted UMS’s substantial growth since its founding eight years ago. The company has established a robust economic model that integrates advanced technological capabilities and supports a thriving workforce in the media sector. UMS operates a diverse portfolio including 46 companies, 17 television channels (including three news channels), 12 newspapers and news websites, and six radio stations. Additionally, the conglomerate manages various marketing, drama, film production, and IT firms dedicated to media.

El Feki emphasised that UMS draws on the rich legacy of Egyptian media, which has profoundly shaped the public discourse in the region. This legacy, spanning over 150 years, has left an indelible mark on the media landscape, bolstered by professional institutions.

    Technology and Market Trends

Nashwa Gad El Haq discussed the technological advancements incorporated by UMS across media and entertainment sectors. She noted that these investments have positioned UMS as a leader in both the Egyptian and Arab markets. The success of WATCH IT, which has become Egypt’s leading entertainment platform, is attributed to leveraging global technological trends and shifting consumer preferences from free content to subscription-based models.

The IBC event, renowned for its competitive display of media technology, digital broadcasting, and communications innovations, attracts industry professionals and leaders from around the world. This year’s convention highlighted the latest advancements in media technology, featuring cutting-edge programmes and smart solutions.

    UMS’s Industry Leadership

Founded in 2016, United Media Services has rapidly become one of the largest media entities in the Arab world. Its extensive reach across various media sectors—including visual, audio, print, and electronic media—demonstrates its capacity to offer comprehensive, integrated media services. UMS also excels in providing sports rights and marketing expertise, reinforcing its position as a major player in the regional media landscape.

As IBC continues to be a premier event for showcasing television broadcasting and related technologies, UMS’s presence underscores its commitment to innovation and leadership in the media industry.
