As the world commemorates 55 years since the first message was sent between remote computers, Softonic, the largest software distributor globally, has revealed the most downloaded browser, internet, and security applications for 2024. Leading the pack is Google Chrome, which has surged to the top of the list with 1.5 million downloads, climbing from fourth place in 2023.

The ascent of Google Chrome highlights its enduring popularity, and the trust users place in the application. Despite recent changes to its third-party cookies policy, the download figures indicate that users have not turned away from Chrome, underscoring its status as a primary internet browser for many.

Softonic’s rankings are based on user downloads over the past year, showcasing a range of popular applications. Following Chrome, UC Browser takes the second spot with 1.4 million downloads, while SHAREit, with over 1 million downloads, maintains its strong presence in the market. SHAREit’s adaptability to emerging markets has significantly contributed to its success, demonstrating its appeal across diverse user demographics.

The list of the most downloaded applications for 2024 includes:

    • Google Chrome: 1.5 million downloads
    • UC Browser: 1.4 million downloads
    • SHAREit: 1 million downloads
    • Mozilla Firefox: 850,000 downloads
    • Hamachi: 600,000 downloads
    • Opera Browser: 580,000 downloads
    • Xender: 540,000 downloads
    • Opera GX: 400,000 downloads
    • 1.1.1.1 with WARP: 390,000 downloads
    • Psiphon: 380,000 downloads

Ferran Gavin, Director of Catalog and Traffic at Softonic, expressed satisfaction in sharing this list with users, emphasising the significance of these applications in daily online activities. He stated, “We are glad to share this list with our users to recognise the software playing a crucial role in our daily online activities.” Gavin also noted that while download figures are telling, they do not always reflect the actual market share of the products. He highlighted Softonic’s commitment to promoting quality and lesser-known software solutions, citing browsers like Opera and Firefox as prime examples.

The ongoing evolution of the internet continues to significantly impact society, influencing how users engage with online content and applications. Softonic encourages users to explore these downloads further to enhance their online experiences. The platform remains dedicated to providing users with access to the best software solutions, promoting both popular and emerging applications alike.

In a rapidly changing digital landscape, users are encouraged to make informed choices about the tools they use. As Softonic continues to highlight the most downloaded applications, it also reinforces its mission of supporting users in discovering new software that can improve their online interactions.
