IBM, in partnership with Microsoft, announced three new IBM-Microsoft Experience Zones opening at the company's Client Innovation Centers in Bucharest, Romania, Buffalo, New York, and Leicester, United Kingdom, to help clients explore and innovate through the benefits of generative AI, hybrid cloud and other Microsoft technologies to transform their business.

IBM and Microsoft have announced the opening of three new IBM-Microsoft Experience Zones, aimed at helping global clients leverage generative AI and hybrid cloud technologies. The new centres, located in Leicester, Buffalo, and Bucharest, join the already inaugurated zone in Bangalore, India, which opened in April 2024.

The Experience Zones are designed to assist clients from various industries, including financial services, government, healthcare, manufacturing, and consumer packaged goods, in exploring the full potential of Microsoft’s technologies. These include Microsoft Azure, Azure Open AI Service, Microsoft Copilot, and Microsoft Dynamics.

Brian Wood, Research Director at IDC, highlighted the value of these zones, noting that they offer clients the opportunity to explore integrated solutions from both IBM and Microsoft. “The combined tools and platforms for data and AI show synergy in many environments and business processes,” he said.

The Leicester, Buffalo, and Bucharest Experience Zones are strategically placed to enhance IBM’s global reach. They will provide dedicated technology stations for clients to experiment with and co-create generative AI solutions, and to access IBM technologies operating on Microsoft Azure, such as the IBM Maximo Application Suite.

Chris McGuire, Vice President at IBM, emphasised the importance of these Experience Zones in aiding clients through their digital transformation journeys. “These zones provide a hands-on opportunity for clients to access and ideate with IBM and Microsoft experts, helping them address their business challenges and develop effective technology solutions,” McGuire explained.

At the Bangalore Experience Zone, clients have explored various solutions related to cloud modernisation, Microsoft Azure, and custom AI copilots. Sectors such as manufacturing and consumer goods have shown interest in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) solutions, including Microsoft’s Hololens and Azure Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

For instance, a financial services client could use Microsoft Copilot to streamline documentation and loan application processes, while a healthcare client might leverage Azure solutions for secure, cross-clinic access to patient records. The Experience Zones also offer training and resources to help upskill employees in next-generation technologies and industry-specific applications.

Dinis Couto, General Manager at Microsoft, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. “Our partnership with IBM to establish three new Experience Zones will enable more customers to create groundbreaking AI-powered services and solutions,” he said.

IBM’s ongoing partnership with Microsoft includes a significant investment in Microsoft technologies. IBM consultants currently hold over 46,000 Microsoft certifications, with plans to add 10,000 generative AI certifications by the end of 2024. The partnership has already seen numerous successful projects, and the new Experience Zones will further enhance IBM’s capability to deliver innovative solutions.

The recent IBM-Microsoft Copilot Hackathon, which saw over 250 client teams participating, exemplifies this collaboration. Teams worked with IBM and Microsoft experts to develop AI-based solutions aimed at improving productivity and streamlining business processes.

As IBM and Microsoft continue to meet growing client demand for advanced technologies, the potential for additional Experience Zones in other global locations will be evaluated. For further details on IBM’s collaboration with Microsoft, visit here.
