SmiKar Software Unveils Squirrel, a New Automated Archiving Tool

SmiKar Software has launched Squirrel, an automated document archiving solution designed to simplify document management for organisations using SharePoint Online. The new software aims to transform the way businesses store and archive their digital documents, offering a seamless and cost-effective alternative to traditional systems.

Squirrel automatically transfers documents from SharePoint Online to Azure Blob Storage based on customisable lifecycle policies. This not only helps organisations reduce storage costs but also ensures that documents are securely archived without losing accessibility.

CEO of SmiKar Software, Mark Smith, described the launch of Squirrel as a “significant advancement” in document management for companies overwhelmed by the growing volume of digital content. He emphasised that businesses require a dependable solution to efficiently manage their archives, improve security, and ensure compliance with regulations, all while keeping costs under control.

“Squirrel not only addresses the challenges of digital content management but also enhances security and compliance, all while reducing storage costs,” said Smith. “It’s a reliable, scalable tool that helps organisations handle their digital assets without disruptions to their daily workflows.”

    Key Features

Among its main features, Squirrel automatically moves documents from SharePoint Online into Azure Blob Storage. This process, which is driven by the software’s automated lifecycle management policies, allows organisations to optimise performance while reducing the storage costs associated with SharePoint’s native storage options.

In addition, Squirrel provides secure data encryption for all archived documents, ensuring that sensitive information remains fully protected. The encryption meets industry standards for security and compliance, offering peace of mind to organisations in highly regulated industries.

One standout feature is Squirrel’s transparency for end-users. Even after documents are moved from SharePoint Online to Azure, a ‘stub’ file remains in SharePoint. This means users can see the document and restore it with just one click, ensuring that archiving has minimal impact on daily operations.

Squirrel also offers comprehensive reporting tools, allowing businesses to monitor the status of their document lifecycles. Detailed reports provide insights into which documents have been archived, how much space has been saved, and where documents are stored. This kind of reporting is critical for organisations needing to maintain detailed records of their data management for compliance purposes.

Additionally, the new system comes with a REST API that integrates seamlessly into existing systems. This allows businesses to customise and automate their document archiving process further, making Squirrel highly adaptable to different organisational needs.

    Next Steps for Businesses

Squirrel is now available, and SmiKar Software is inviting businesses to explore the new solution. Organisations interested in learning more or scheduling a demonstration can visit SmiKar Software’s website for additional information.

With the launch of Squirrel, SmiKar Software is positioning itself as a key player in the document management space, providing businesses with an innovative tool that promises both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

For those managing large volumes of digital content on SharePoint Online, the introduction of Squirrel could be a game-changer, reducing storage costs while ensuring that archived documents remain easily accessible and securely protected.
