NTT DOCOMO has announced its participation in MWC Barcelona 2025, the world’s largest connectivity exhibition, which will take place in Spain from 3 to 6 March. The telecommunications giant, alongside its parent company NTT Group, will present its latest technologies and initiatives aimed at advancing next-generation communication under the themes of non-terrestrial networks (NTN), open radio access networks (Open RAN), and entertainment innovation.
Operating under the brand slogan “Bridging Worlds for Wonder & Happiness,” DOCOMO will highlight advancements in connectivity that address global challenges and enhance user experiences.
Non-Terrestrial Networks and Aerospace Innovations
In the field of NTN and aerospace, DOCOMO will showcase developments aligned with the NTT Group’s “NTT C89” space-business strategy. A key focus will be the use of high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) — unmanned vehicles operating in the stratosphere for extended periods — to deliver mobile connectivity to remote and challenging locations such as mountainous areas, maritime zones, and even airspace. These initiatives aim to address coverage gaps and enhance global connectivity.
Advancements in Open RAN
DOCOMO will also highlight its contributions to Open RAN technology. Through collaborations with international telecom operators and its joint venture, OREX SAI, INC., formed with NEC, the company will demonstrate its Open RAN services that integrate the expertise of global partners. These innovations aim to standardise and enhance flexibility within the telecom ecosystem.
Future of Entertainment Technologies
The exhibition will feature demonstrations of cutting-edge entertainment technologies developed by DOCOMO and NTT Group. These include MiRZA® XR glasses from NTT QONOQ Devices, Inc., which are tailored for enterprise and consumer applications. Visitors will have the opportunity to test the glasses and experience NTT’s XR Real Support solution for remote work. Additionally, a prototype of augmented reality (AR) glasses, scheduled for release later this year, will be unveiled.
DOCOMO will also present FEEL TECH®, a technology designed to transform sensory interactions by conveying emotions and sensations alongside visuals and sound. A live demonstration will offer visitors an immersive glimpse into the future of entertainment experiences.
Virtual Expo 2025 Preview
As part of its broader commitment to innovation, DOCOMO will preview the Virtual EXPO for Expo 2025, developed primarily by NTT QONOQ, INC. The platform, set to launch in April, will allow users to explore the NTT Pavilion remotely through various devices.
Industry Leadership at MWC
DOCOMO’s presence at MWC Barcelona will include a keynote address from Sadayuki Abeta, the company’s Chief Open RAN Strategist. Scheduled for 4 March at 16:15 on the MWC Broadcast Stage, the presentation will highlight DOCOMO’s latest projects and vision for the future of connectivity.
Located at Stand 4E50 in Hall 4, the DOCOMO booth will provide attendees with a comprehensive look at the company’s innovations across multiple sectors.
