To mark National Storytelling Week, global edtech provider Discovery Education has unveiled a range of new digital resources aimed at inspiring young writers and building their confidence in creative storytelling.
The resources, available through Discovery Education’s award-winning Espresso and DoodleEnglish platforms, are designed to support teachers and engage pupils in primary schools across the UK. Closely aligned with the National Curriculum for English, they provide interactive tools to enhance storytelling skills and nurture a love of writing.
National Storytelling Week, taking place from 1st to 9th February 2025, is an annual celebration of the power of stories. This year’s theme, ‘Reimagine Your World’, encourages children to explore storytelling in new ways, using creativity to reshape their understanding of the world around them. Discovery Education’s latest offerings aim to support this vision, helping teachers bring stories to life in the classroom.
Among the new resources are:
- Mini Lessons – Interactive lessons designed to inspire story creation, tailored to different Key Stages (Espresso).
- Literary Genre Films – A new series for Key Stage 2 pupils, exploring genres such as fantasy, mystery and autobiography (Espresso).
- Interactive SPAG Exercises – Activities designed to make language exploration fun and accessible, improving writing confidence (DoodleEnglish).
- Fun Literary Games – Personalised reading and comprehension games tailored to individual learning needs (DoodleEnglish).
- STEM Storytelling – Engaging video stories featuring animated characters Finn, Goldie and Cam (Espresso).
- Fable Cottage – Classic fairy tales and traditional stories retold in modern language (Espresso).

Lizzy Lambley, UK Head of Production at Discovery Education, highlighted the importance of fostering storytelling skills in young learners.
“Discovery Education is proud to support National Storytelling Week by providing teachers with resources to inspire a love of writing. Creative writing has many benefits for young learners—it boosts confidence and imagination, raises attainment, and even supports pupil wellbeing by empowering children to share their stories.”
